Life at Amrita
Nestled in a picturesque village, across the beautiful and famed backwaters of Kerala, lies the Amritapuri campus of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The campus draws students from just around the corner and from far across the globe. Our technical excellence and the pristine beauty of the campus attract them. Located close to the International headquarters of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, the campus provides students a learning environment that blends science and spirituality harmoniously. Opportunities to participate in the Ashram’s several social service initiatives help students imbibe the spirit of selfless service.
Foot-ball ground, Cricket ground, Basket ball, volley ball courts, Table Tennis complex with Chess and Carom boards helps the students to enjoy in the evenings. Different departmental associations organize interdepartmental games where students from different batches participate. A badminton court is provided inside the University building. Both students and the staff join for the tournament.
Students can also attend AMMA's evening bhajans in the Ashram prayer hall. Prayer in AMMA's Divine presence helps the students to get relaxed after the work during the whole day, and thus it makes learning easier. After the bhajans, dinner is served till 09:00 p.m. Students are not allowed to go outside the hostel after 09:30 p.m. after marking their regular hostel attendance.
Health Care
The Amritapuri campus provides students facilities necessary for the cultivation of a sound mind in a sound body. Sports facilities include a playground, gymnasium, swimming pool, and volleyball & badminton courts. The recreation facilities & activities and fitness programmes are meant to promote the physical, social and emotional well being of the students.
Yoga – The programme is designed to provide sufficient exercise to the body and mind alike. Students have observed that these programmes significantly improve the strength and endurance of regular participants.
Hospital – The services at the Amrita Kripa hospital located within the Ashram premises are available to the students. It is a well equipped hospital with four attending doctors & inpatient facilities.
Ayurvedic Clinic - Ayurvedic treatment including Panchakrma is available at the Ashram’s Ayurvedic clinic. Herbal medicines prepared in the traditional manner by the monastic disciples are also available at the pharmacy.
Accommodations and Meals
A vegetarian canteen offering north and south Indian, chinese dishes is also inside the campus. Good quality and tasty food is provided with reasonable cost for all the students and staff. Canteen is open on all working days from 07:00 a.m. to 08:00 in the night. It is closed on all the holidays. Hot water is also provided by the canteen for the students and the staff.
